Questions About the Safety of NeuroStar®
Clinical trials have proven the safety of NeuroStar® Advanced Therapy in the treatment of adult patients with major depressive disorder and comorbid anxiety symptoms who have not benefitted from prior antidepressant medications.9,12
Treatment with NeuroStar Advanced Therapy caused few side effects and was generally well tolerated by patients.2,12 Established safety profile and treatment adherence with less than 5% discontinuation rate with NeuroStar Advanced Therapy due to adverse events.12 The most common side effect associated with NeuroStar is mild to moderate pain or discomfort at or near the treatment site that typically subsides within the first week of treatment.1,2,21,23 There is a rare risk of seizure associated with the use of TMS therapy (,0.1% per patient). Patients should be carefully monitored for worsening symptoms and/or signs or symptoms of suicidal behavior and/or unusual behavior. Families and caregivers should also be aware of the need to observe patients and notify their treatment provider if symptoms worsen.2
NeuroStar Advanced Therapy should not be used with patients who have non-removable conductive metal in or near the head.
